History

 
ARiD is a charity founded in 2010 with the aim of providing a platform for enhancing knowledge-based intervention for community transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our staff comprises of a multi-disciplinary team of experienced researchers and civil society experts with background in conflict, peace and development in the African context.
ARiD is a fully registered as a national NGO in Uganda with its National Registration No S5914/9433.
Our regional offices are located in Pader, northern Uganda.

Research programmes

The overall aim of ARiD research programme is to make research knowledge easily available to facilitate social change. Our research takes place both as part of our social action programmes, and on various themes. ARiD’s research is contextually oriented and always carried out in cooperation with other partners. We value rigor in scientific research.

    On-going research project: A Longitudinal Study on the Effect of Income Generating Activity support on Education and Protection Outcomes for Children from Child Headed Households in Northern Uganda (2013-2015). Sponsor: War Child UK.

Community Research Centre Project

ARiD’s Community Research Centre is the first Centre to be set up in northern Uganda. In order to support our research work, the Centre will be equipped with modern ICT equipment and essential library materials and periodicals. For the Centre to be fully operational, it requires computers, computer furniture, bookshelves, books and other library materials.

Photo Coming Soon Edward is the Director of Project Planning and Management. Edward, an expert in Agriculture, graduated from Arapai Agricultural College (Uganda) and has 28 years of diligence in services. Edward has passion, wide knowledge and experience in agricultural extension services with practical skills in training farmers and farmer groups in modern agricultural practices, group organization, development and general group dynamics that would bring about increased productivity. After working for eight years with Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture as an Agricultural Extension Officer with advisory responsibilities to peasant farmers, Edward coordinated Agro-forestry Project throughout the present Agago district for five years. He ensured the success of the Afro-Forestry project from its initiation, implementation and sustainability. He also managed HIV/AIDS projects that supported People Living with and Affected by HIV/AIDS (PLWAs) with foci on nutrition, WASH education, distribution of food and non-food items for three years. Since 1991, Edward’s career in the NGO world exposed him to extensive knowledge and skills in his field of expertise and that made him create expansive networks at local, regional and international levels. Edward’s vast experience in agriculture and sustainable livelihoods, HIV/AIDS projects, emergency relief and rehabilitation and fieldwork in the entire Acholi sub-region during peace, civil war and the transition to peace complement those of the ARiD team. Objectives

OBJECTIVES FOR SETTING UP ARiD

The main objectives for establishing ARiD include the following:

  • To conduct cutting-edge action oriented and policy advocacy interdisciplinary research on contemporary issues affecting humankind.
  • Provide community based life-skills trainings and educational support.
  • To offer technical support services to individuals, agencies and institutions/organizations through multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral demand driven consultancies
  • To promote community led income generating activities.
  • To advocate for protection of the rights and dignity of vulnerable people

 

How we aim to achieve the above objectives,

 

imageBy establishing a Community Research Centre Cutting-edge research requires a functional modern resource centre integrated with ICT. Our field offices in Pader district houses the Community Research Centre. We value the power of contemporary information sharing and knowledge generation for social transformation. We already have the infrastructure for the community Research Centre and is connected to the Pader town electricity grid. We welcome any form of support to boost the centre with basic and essential resource materials – journals, books, newsletters or computers.

 

 

 

   

 

 

 

Our Community Research Centre offers space and facilities for:

  • Community research and networking
  • Conducting short training courses
  • E-learning, e-business and e-governance
  • Conducting seminars, workshops and round table discussions
  • Social space for community activities (meetings, social gatherings and consultations, etc.)
